Protect your brand in India: a guide for businesses

Your brand is one of your most valuable assets. Here's how businesses use TM Manager to clear new names, follow their trademark applications and stop copycat marks, without being trademark experts.

Your brand name and logo are what customers remember. A registered trademark makes them yours to use and to protect. But registering is only the start: applications get objections, copycats file similar marks, and registrations need renewing.

TM Manager helps founders, marketing teams and in-house legal teams look after their brands without becoming trademark experts.

1. Check a name before you launch

Before you spend on packaging, a website or ads, make sure the name is free. Search the Indian register in TM Search for marks that look or sound like yours, in your line of business. Upload your logo to find similar designs.

A clear search now is far cheaper than a rebrand later. See how to check if a trademark is available.

2. Follow your applications without the jargon

Add your application numbers to My Portfolio and TM Manager follows them on the Registry for you. In All Updates you see, in plain terms, what changed:

  • Needs attention: an objection, a hearing, an opposition against your mark, or a renewal coming up;
  • Results: accepted, registered, refused.

Each step that needs a response becomes a task with a due date, so you and your attorney always know what's next.

3. Stop copycat marks early

Every week new marks are published in the Trade Marks Journal, and you have only four months to oppose one that's too close to yours. Journal Watch checks each journal against your marks and shows you the close ones, with how they're similar: identical, sounds alike, looks alike, same meaning and more.

Spot one? Bookmark it, ask the AI Assistant for a view, and talk to your attorney about opposing. See how to oppose a trademark.

4. Keep your registrations alive

A registered trademark lasts 10 years and must be renewed. TM Manager creates a renewal task as the expiry date approaches, so your brand stays protected. See trademark renewal in India.

5. All your brands in one place

Group marks by brand, product line or group company with tags and clients. Export a summary as Excel or PDF for management, investors or due diligence.
